Consultation with Minister of Family and Human Rights on establishing Independent Human Rights Commission

Mogadishu, Somalia – 17 June 2025: The Human Rights, Women, and Humanitarian Affairs Committee, led by Deputy Chairperson Hon. Hirsi Dahir Roble, held a consultative session with the Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, H.E. Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, at Villa Hargeisa. The Minister briefed the Committee on the Ministry’s mandate and the process of establishing the Independent Human Rights Commission, noting that candidates had recently undergone qualification assessment. Members raised questions regarding transparency, legal compliance, and the independence of the future commission. The Deputy Chairperson emphasized the need to strictly follow constitutional and legal requirements to ensure a credible, independent national human rights body.
