Mogadishu, Somalia – 25 May 2025: The Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the House of the People, together with the Upper House, held a joint consultative meeting with the Human Rights, Women, and Humanitarian Affairs Committee at Villa Hargeisa. Chaired by Deputy Chairperson Hon. Aweys Hussein Moalim, the session focused on reviewing the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. Members discussed provisions that may conflict with Islamic values, Somali cultural context, and the national Constitution, and agreed on the need to revise or remove those articles before the Charter proceeds to its second reading and is later forwarded to the Upper House for review and final approval.
