Mogadishu, Somalia – 04 March 2025: The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, H.E. Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), accompanied by the Second Deputy Speaker, H.E. Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, chaired the second extraordinary meeting of the Standing Committee at the Office of the Speaker and Committees in Villa Hargeisa, Mogadishu. The meeting brought together members of the Standing Committee to deliberate on important parliamentary matters at a critical stage of the sixth session.

In his opening presentation, the Speaker delivered a detailed report to committee members on the work of the House since the beginning of the first session. The report highlighted notable achievements in legislative efforts and oversight responsibilities, emphasizing the progress made in strengthening parliamentary functions and advancing Somalia’s governance framework. The Speaker underlined the importance of sustaining momentum as the sixth session continues.

Following the briefing, members of the Standing Committee engaged in discussions on the agenda for the second week of the sixth parliamentary session. Priority was given to key legislation currently under review, with the committee agreeing on the need to ensure timely deliberations and effective coordination across committees to expedite parliamentary work. The discussions underscored the House’s responsibility to deliver on its constitutional mandate.

The meeting also addressed the issue of Members of Parliament who have repeatedly failed to attend sittings without formal permission. Committee members shared different views on how best to uphold parliamentary discipline and safeguard institutional standards. The Standing Committee agreed that enforcing rules of procedure is essential to preserving accountability, ensuring consistency, and maintaining the integrity of the House of the People.
