Oversight hearing with Minister of Petroleum on oil exploration, legal framework, and national interest

Mogadishu, Somalia – 29 April 2025: The National Resources and Environment Committee of the House of the People held an official inquiry session with the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources at Villa Hargeisa. Chaired by MP Yusuf Hussein Ahmed (Gamaadiid), members questioned the Minister, Deputy Minister, Director General, and the Director of the Somali Petroleum Authority about oil exploration and extraction activities, recent developments including external agreements, and the legal framework governing the sector. The Committee emphasized transparency, environmental protection, and the need to safeguard Somalia’s national interest.
