Mogadishu, Somalia — 20 February 2025: The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, H.E. Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), chaired a meeting of the Standing Committee at the Speaker’s Office and Committees headquarters in Villa Hargeisa, Mogadishu. The session brought together the leadership of the Standing Committees to deliberate on priority issues concerning the House’s mandate and to review ways of advancing parliamentary activities.
In his opening remarks, the Speaker emphasized the importance of the upcoming sixth parliamentary session, scheduled to commence on Saturday. He underlined that the session will carry significant responsibilities, most notably the finalization of Somalia’s long-awaited constitutional review process. According to the Speaker, this effort reflects the House’s strong commitment to completing the constitutional framework and providing a foundation for inclusive governance and national stability.
Following the Speaker’s remarks, the chairs of the Standing Committees provided updates on the legislation under their supervision, along with an overview of the procedures that remain pending. They stressed the importance of ensuring that parliamentary processes are carried out efficiently, lawfully, and in a manner that strengthens public confidence in the legislature. Their presentations reflected both the progress achieved in earlier sessions and the challenges that remain in finalizing pending legislative matters.
The committees also made detailed comments on the agenda and highlighted the steps required to move forward with outstanding procedures.
